Cover Letter Tips
• Don’t overuse ‘I’
Focus on being neat and objective in your cover letter. Avoid the use of first person as much as possible.
• Be concise
A cover letter is just a prelude to your resume, where you have the freedom to speak about your areas of interests and key strengths. It offers employers a starting point and a brief background of your candidature. Therefore, make sure your objectives are clearly communicated in a short 2-3 paragraph text.
• Do not duplicate your resume
Your resume and cover letter should complement and not supplement each other. The cover letter should enumerate certain points that will generate curiosity and lead the employer to proceed towards the resume. A short summary of your experience and skills, focusing on your potential contribution should do the trick.
• Tailor cover letter to the employer requirements
While your resume summarizes your qualifications, the cover letter offers an opportunity to communicate how those qualifications can help meet the employer’s needs. Again, highlight your skills through the benefits that you can offer.
